5 Startup Pitch Competitions for Your November 2026 Shortlist
Five pitch competitions to plan for this November, with application windows, eligibility checks, participation costs and links to the reviewed opportunities.
Finding a pitch competition is easy. Deciding whether it deserves a week of your attention is harder.
For November, we’ve selected five opportunities with different strengths: a short online video challenge, a technology showcase, a deep tech competition, a student startup competition, and an international startup stage.
This is an application shortlist for November 2026. Some deadlines fall during the month; others open in November or remain open beyond it. Several competitions take place in 2027.
Application information checked against organizer websites and linked rules on October 18, 2026. Rice applications open in November; this is not a list of five competitions taking place that month. Our recommendations below are editorial judgments about fit, not predictions of selection or funding.
November application calendar
- Founders Live Pitch Video Challenge: closes November 9, 2026, at 23:59:59 UTC. For founders comfortable recording a short pitch and rallying an audience.
- SXSW Pitch 2027: closes November 13, 2026. For technology startups considering an in-person showcase in Austin.
- Hello Tomorrow Challenge: closes November 30, 2026. For early-stage deep tech and science-based startups.
- Rice Business Plan Competition 2027: opens November 9, 2026; closes January 29, 2027. For student startup teams that meet the eligibility requirements.
- South Summit Madrid Startup Competition: registration open until January 31, 2027. For startups seeking an international pitching opportunity.
1. Founders Live Pitch Video Challenge: practice clarity and audience-building
Founders Live asks you to explain your startup in a 99-second video. Entry is free, and founders can participate from anywhere. You must have an actual company; check the full rules before entering.
Submit your video URL by November 9, 2026, at 23:59:59 UTC. Voting runs from November 2 to December 2. Regional vote leaders can win cash prizes, and qualifying teams advance to a later livestreamed tournament. View on PitchPolar
Our recommendation: Consider this if you want a clear reason to finish a short, reusable explanation of your business. The video can also help you introduce your startup to customers or collaborators.
The tradeoff is the voting component. Recording a strong pitch is only part of the work; you also need a plan for reaching people who will watch and vote.
Before filming, try explaining three things without slides: who has the problem, what your product changes, and why someone should care.
2. SXSW Pitch 2027: assess the fit before paying the application fee
SXSW Pitch accepts applications until November 13, 2026. The regular application fee is $225 and non-refundable. The showcase takes place in Austin on March 16–17, 2027, across eight technology categories. The main schedule and application cart agree on November 13, although a lower FAQ paragraph lists November 11. Confirm the cutoff in the application portal and submit early. View on PitchPolar
Our recommendation: Put this on your shortlist if your technology fits a published category and you can explain its value with concrete evidence.
Before paying, write down what would make participation worthwhile for your business: relevant introductions, customer conversations, or exposure to a particular audience. Then consider the potential travel and preparation costs alongside the application fee.
A useful preparation exercise is to review every claim in your deck. Which statements have customer evidence, product results, or credible data behind them? Which are still assumptions?
3. Hello Tomorrow Challenge: a focused option for deep tech teams
Hello Tomorrow’s competition is designed for early-stage deep tech and science-based startups. Applications are free and close on November 30, 2026. The Grand Finals take place during the Hello Tomorrow Summit in Amsterdam on June 2–3, 2027. Free application does not cover all participation costs: first-time selected Pioneers pay a refundable €99 summit deposit per ticket, Investor Day costs extra, and teams fund their own travel and accommodation. Our recommendation: Consider this when a scientific or engineering advance is central to your business. Check the organizer’s definition of deep tech rather than assuming that using AI or another advanced technology automatically makes your startup a fit.
Your application needs to connect technical progress with a practical use. A helpful exercise is to write two short explanations: one for a specialist who understands the science, and one for a potential customer who cares about the outcome.
If the second explanation is difficult, work on it before adding more technical detail to the first.
4. Rice Business Plan Competition 2027: check eligibility before building the application
Rice opens applications on November 9, 2026, with a deadline of January 29, 2027.
The competition is for student-driven startups from universities worldwide. Initial criteria include at least two current student founders or management team members, along with limits on prior equity funding and revenue. Read the complete rules before committing preparation time. The FAQ requires a graduate student, but the linked 2027 eligibility PDF allows graduate and/or undergraduate students. Undergraduate-only teams should confirm eligibility with [email protected]. The published submission cutoff is January 29 at 11:59 PM CST, which is January 30 at 12:59 AM in New York. Our recommendation: This is worth investigating early if your team meets the student requirements and is seeking capital. November gives you time to identify gaps in the application before the January deadline.
Start with eligibility, then assign responsibility for the business case, financial assumptions, and presentation. Preparing the deck first can waste effort if the team does not qualify.
For practice, watch a competition presentation and note which questions expose missing evidence. Apply the same questions to your own business.
5. South Summit Madrid: use November to sharpen a short investor pitch
South Summit’s Madrid 2027 startup competition call lists applications as open until January 31, 2027. The summit runs June 2–4, 2027; its general ticket waiting list is separate from competition entry. The competition selects 100 finalist startups from around the world and across sectors. Finalists receive a three-minute pitching opportunity in front of investors and corporate representatives. View on PitchPolar
Our recommendation: Consider this if an international audience is relevant to your next stage of growth. Having a later deadline gives you room to improve the application, but set your own submission date so it does not become a task you postpone indefinitely.
For a three-minute pitch, choose the few points that earn a follow-up conversation. Keep supporting detail ready for questions rather than squeezing everything into the presentation.
How we would choose where to apply
We would start with three questions:
- Can we qualify? Check geography, student status, business stage, sector, and funding restrictions.
- Does the format suit us? Audience voting, a technical application, and a short investor pitch reward different preparation.
- What useful work will remain afterward? A clearer explanation, stronger deck, or better understanding of your business can still be valuable if you are not selected.
Choose one priority application, then add a second only if the preparation overlaps. Five rushed applications can consume more time than one carefully chosen opportunity deserves.
